It is the fourth single from Sheeran’s 2017 album ÷.
He explained his motivation for writing “Perfect” in an interview with Music Choice:
I think the song “Perfect” is actually better than “Thinking Out Loud.” I think there was always a scare that “Thinking Out Loud” would define me and define my career. So I, I wrote a lot of songs trying to beat it and now I think, I think I have beaten it.
Thematically, the song is reminiscent of “18,” a song he wrote for his friends in One Direction.
The “Perfect Duet” featuring Beyoncé was released on Dec. 1, 2017 and the “Perfect Symphony” with Italian opera singer Andrea Bocelli came out two weeks later on Dec. 15.
“Perfect” reached number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart on Dec. 23, 2017. It also topped the charts in Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, Sweden and the UK.Expand +477101ShareQ&AFind answers to frequently asked questions about the song and explore its deeper meaningAsk a questionWhat did Ed Sheeran say about "Perfect"?Genius Answer1 contributor

"Perfect" lyrics
Ed Sheeran Lyrics
"Perfect"
I found a love for me
Darling, just dive right in and follow my lead
Well, I found a girl, beautiful and sweet
Oh, I never knew you were the someone waiting for me
'Cause we were just kids when we fell in love
Not knowing what it was
I will not give you up this time
But darling, just kiss me slow
Your heart is all I own
And in your eyes you're holding mine
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark
With you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass
Listening to our favourite song
When you said you looked a mess
I whispered underneath my breath
But you heard it,
Darling, you look perfect tonight
Well, I found a woman, stronger than anyone I know
She shares my dreams, I hope that someday I'll share her home
I found a love to carry more than just my secrets
To carry love, to carry children of our own
We are still kids but we're so in love
Fighting against all odds
I know we'll be alright this time
Darling, just hold my hand
Be my girl, I'll be your man
I see my future in your eyes
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark
With you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass
Listening to our favourite song
When I saw you in that dress
Looking so beautiful
I don't deserve this
Darling, you look perfect tonight
No, no, no
Baby, I'm dancing in the dark
With you between my arms
Barefoot on the grass
Listening to our favourite song
I have faith in what I see
Now I know I have met an angel in person
And she looks perfect
I don't deserve this
You look perfect tonight

Writer(s): Ed Sheeran
"Perfect" is the 4th single from Ed Sheeran's album "÷".
The song is dedicated to Ed's girlfriend Cherry Seaborn, whom he knew from school and reconnected with when she was working in New York.
Ed Sheeran revealed in an interview that the inspiration for the lyrics came after visiting James Blunt's house in Ibiza, where the two singers danced to the rapper Future's "March Madness" at six in the morning.
"Perfect" is the first song in Ed Sheeran's career where he was collaborated with his brother Matthew, who provided strings orchestration. It was the final wish of their grandmother to see the brothers working together before she died.
A version of "Perfect" with Beyoncé, titled "Perfect Duet", was released on 1 December 2017.
The song becomes Sheeran's second Billboard Hot 100 Number One song, eight months after his first, "Shape Of You", completed its run on top.

The English language has never agreed to this limitation. Since its earliest use in the 13th century, perfect has, like almost all adjectives, been compared, first in the now obsolete forms perfecter and perfectest, and more recently with more, most, and similar comparison words: the most perfect arrangement of color and line imaginable. Perfect is compared in most of its general senses in all varieties of speech and writing. After all, one of the objectives of the writers of the U.S. Constitution was “to form a more perfect union.” See also complete, unique. However when perfect means excellent in all respects, a comparative can be used with it without absurdity: the next day the weather was even more perfectDerived forms of perfectperfectness, nounCollins English Dictionary - Complete & Unabridged 2012 Digital Edition
